Friendly Beasts

Livy had her Christmas program last night at church. She did such a great job!! Last year, she wouldn't even walk down the aisle to come into the auditorium. This year, she went up on stage and everything. We are so proud of her! We read and talked about "The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright" before, and I think it helped. LOVE this girl more every day!!

Cloth!

So, I've been wanting to try cloth diapers, but I can't seem to convince my husband the outlay of moolah is worth it. Especially since we're still using diapers that were given at various baby showers, etc. So I'm entering a drawing to win some! Woo! To check them out, go here Fuzzibunz and wish me luck! :)

A word of warning, you should probably have a bit of a funny (and I don't mean in the "funny-ha-ha" way) sense of humor to laugh at these. :)

Passive aggressive notes and awkward family photos are my favorites!

Keegan Joseph's story

Here we are 5 days before delivery of Keegan Joseph. We went to the hospital this day (Friday, the 22nd) b/c I had contractions all day. They ranged from 2-6 minutes apart all day and got harder and faster when I walked around. We went in about 5 pm that day and they monitored me for a few hours. I was dilated to 2 cm. They told me to walk around for 2 hours (!) and then they would check me again. After our walk, I was still a 2, but they had to watch me for 30 more minutes to make sure Keegan was okay. So about 9:40 the doc comes in and does an ultrasound to make sure there's enough fluid, etc. There is, but he wants to watch me some more. They check me again around 11:15, and I'm at 3 cm now. The doc says I can stay (but they won't do anything until I'm at 4 or 5 cm), or I can take an Ambien and go home. It's now close to midnight and I haven't eaten since lunch and have been in the uncomfortable bed since about 5 (except for walking). Three guesses what I picked! We went home and had an uneventful Memorial Day weekend then.

Getting ready to go home.

Long post following, but not too graphic. :)

Fast forward to Tuesday night, the 26th. I had a feeling something was going to happen that night. I went to sleep but woke up at 12:45 Wednesday morning, the 27th. I laid in bed for a while trying to go back to sleep, but I just couldn't. I was wide awake. I wandered around the house some, ate cereal, messed around on the internet, read my book, just generally wasted time. I even tried to go back to sleep a few times, but I was afraid I would keep Wes up with my flopping around. So I'm at the computer (at 3:50 am) reading random blogs when I felt a weird pain, like a large pin prick. I thought, "That's weird, who knows what Keegan's doing in there..." A few minutes later I shifted in my seat and my water broke! There was no mistaking it this time, either. I ran to the bedroom and woke up Wes. I decided to take a shower, since I knew it would be a long time before I got one. After I got out, we called our parents and mine headed over to wait for Livy to wake up (bless them!) We got to the hospital around 5, and they got us set up in the triage room. They got me on the monitor and checked to see if my water had really broken (duh!). They got us in a room pretty quickly, I think we were in one by 6:15 at the latest. Dr. Cunningham came in and talked to me about an epidural around 6:30 or so. He said that if I wanted it, I had better get it because they had a full day of surgeries scheduled. Not wanting to wait too long and then miss it, I said "Bring the drugs!" An anesthesiologist (sp?) came in shortly after and gave me the epidural. It was horrible! I don't remember it being like that last time. Apparently it was a new type of kit and she had some trouble. Ugh. Glad I got it though, you'll see why later on. So then I'm laying back waiting for it to kick it. My right leg is getting pretty numb, left one not so much. Wes and I are watching the monitor to see if I'm contracting when we noticed that Keegan's heart rate was down to about 80 (had been around 140-150). A nurse comes in and starts messing with the wire placement and quickly pages Dr. Cunningham. She paged him twice in less than two minutes; the second time she said, "I need him in here NOW!" That's when I started to get really scared. Dr. Cunningham came in and about 4 other nurses. They tried to roll me on either side and also tried to put the scalp monitor on Keegan. Nothing worked to get his heart rate back up. Dr. Cunningham told me then that he was going to have to do a c-section. They started unhooking me from everything and wheeled me out in the hall. I swear, I have never prayed so hard in my life! I was just praying over and over that Keegan would be okay. They got me into the OR and started to get everything ready. The anesthesiologist in there said, "Guys, I don't have anything to give her. I don't have any Fentanyl, Morphine, anything." Eek... Dr. Cunningham ran something across my stomach and asked if I could feel it. I told him I could barely, and he said "We've got to go, folks." Double eek... So I had a c-section without my epidural fully kicked in. Wes came in after Dr. Cunningham had started and got to hold Keegan right away. As Dr. Cunningham was sewing everything back up, it was hurting so badly and I finally got some morphine. I was laying on the table crying and telling Wes, "It hurts so bad." Poor guy, I probably worried him to death! Then Wes went out with Keegan to the nursery and they took me back to recovery. Apparently I was only supposed to be back there for 30 minutes, but it ended up being about 3 hours! They were short handed that day (18 babies in 24 hours, 15 deliveries, moms waiting out in the hall). My nurse kept calling to 'give report' on me (not sure what that means) and never could get the other nurse she needed to talk to. Finally a supervisor came back there and my nurse talked to her about it. They eventually brought Keegan back there and let Wes come back too. I got back into my room around noon. Whew... All in all, a crazy delivery! Happily, Keegan was healthy and nothing went wrong. Turns out, the cord was over his shoulder and it was pressed up against my pubic bone. Dr. Cunningham said if we hadn't been at the hospital we would have lost Keegan! Scary! He was 6 lbs, 14 oz, 19.5 inches long- a full pound LESS than Livy! He was born at 7:45 am on the 27th, not even 3 hours after we got to the hospital. (It couldn't have been more than 10-12 minutes between the time that the first nurse came in to check his heart rate and when he was born. They are fast!) We are so thankful that he is healthy! We now have two wonderful children and couldn't be happier. :) (If you made it this far, thanks for reading!)

New bike and newborns

So, I know it's obvious since one of them is wearing pink, but don't you think they look alike? :)

Nanny and Papaw got Livy a new bike last week. It's kind of a 'we know you have a new little brother, but we love you still' and a 'happy early birthday' gift wrapped into one. She looooves it! Too bad our street is so sloped. Wes took her up to the top of the street the other day and let her ride around on the flat part up there. He said she had a ball. I can't believe she's getting so big!

Funny girl....

So I was scrubbing the toilet the other day (not my favorite job), and Livy was watching. Here's what went down:

Livy: Mom, why do you have to scrub the toilet?
Me: Well sweetie, it just gets dirty and we have to clean it. We don't want Beep Beep to get sick if he drinks out of a dirty toilet. And it's gross to look at when it's dirty.
Livy: Well, when I grow up, my husband is just going to scrub the toilet so I can play with my kids! (At this point, she throws out her arms wide and drags out "play with my kids").
Me: (laughing hysterically) That sounds like a good plan, Livy. Let me know how that works out.

Seriously, where does she come up with this stuff?

Bunny House! (and some older stuff, too)

We decorated a bunny house today. Livy can't wait to eat it. :) We also added a Peeps chick on there, just for extra beauty!
This is from a few months ago when the Sunday School kids played bells at church. It's so cute! They have different colors and Ms. Oma holds up cards with color dots on them to tell the kids when to ring their bells. Livy played at first service, but didn't want to do it at the second service. They played and sang "Jesus Loves Me." Adorable!

It only took 3 1/2 years...

...but Livy finally sat on the Easter Bunny's lap! My mom, Livy, and I went to the mall earlier today. Livy was so excited to see him and gave him a hug and a kiss. So Wes and I took her back this evening to get her picture made. I can't believe she actually did it!

Pics

We had a 4D ultrasound done last night at What's Kickin' in Bentonville. It was pretty neat! Little munchkin wasn't too cooperative, hopefully that's not a sign of things to come. :) She did get a few shots of his face, though. He just wouldn't move his hand away and lift up his chin. We should get our DVD withing a week, I think. Livy wasn't too impressed with it, but she's not feeling too well right now so it was understandable. I didn't post the picture of his 'boy parts', I didn't think that was really for public consumption! :)

He just slept and slept away. So unusual! I had a Dr. Pepper, but that still didn't wake him up.

He was curled up with his legs up by his head. No wonder I'm so uncomfortable! You can see his leg making a 90 degree angle and his little bottom.

More sleeping. He did yawn for us a few times in the 2D part, hopefully that will be on our video.

Little hand. Looks like he's missing a finger, but he's not really. :)

Sleeping and dreaming, I think. He finally started wiggling about right here. Only 2 1/2 more months! :)

It's a....

boy! I don't know if I'm used to the idea of a boy yet. :) There aren't many boys in my family, and I just kind of assumed we would have another girl. Livy's getting used to the idea of a little brother. She was pretty upset at first, though. :( Our ultrasound tech (who was also our wedding planner!) was very nonchalant about it. She said (in the middle of taking measurements for the doc to check out), "I think it's going to be a boy." I thought she was kidding at first, it was so sudden. Turns out, she just got a really (and I mean REALLY) good view at that time. It's very obviously a boy, no mistakes there. We've got a lot of shopping to do, we don't have hardly any unisex clothes because everyone always wants to buy girly, lacy stuff for little girls. The shopping part is definitely fun. :) I'll try to post some pictures if I can get them scanned in. I don't have any new ones on the computer.

Boo.

Apparently the weather at my clinic (2 miles from our house) is bad enough that they are cancelling all their appointments for this afternoon. I am upset and mad. It's doing nothing here at our house, and the forecast doesn't even call for it to start until after 5 at least. We have an appointment tomorrow, but it's really doubtful we'll be able to make that. So the next available appointment is Friday. Double boo.

Ta-da!

Livy wanted to be in the picture also. :) I think I look about the same from last time at 20 weeks, but you can judge for yourself, I'll try to post a last time pic from the other computer.

Pig Sooie!

Comparing pom-poms

Big hugs!

I can't believe she got this close to Sue E.!

I forgot to post these pictures of Livy at the women's basketball game yesterday. We went with Sheri and Jeff (he had to film, but we saw him afterwards). We went once last year, and Livy was a little scared of the Hogs. Not this time, though! She was all about seeing the hogs! She wore her hog nose for a little bit at the beginning of the game, but it's a bit big for her face. She waved her pom-pom the whole time though, and even did a good job calling the Hogs! Thanks Aunt Sheri and Uncle Jeff!!

Halfway there! (and belated Christmas post)

Here are some pictures from when my dad and Wes went on their snowmobile ride in Alaska. We had a great vacation. It was a little tiring, but lots of fun. I'll post more pictures once I figure out how to get them off Shutterfly. I'm a little irritated with them right now, but that's another story. :)

We went to the science museum, the zoo, the mall, played in the snow, and Livy got to go skiing! She was adorable in her little bitty skis and helmet. She did a pretty good job, too, if I do say so myself. :) The pictures are pretty dark, since it gets dark in Alaska pre-4:00, but some of them are good. They are also on Shutterfly right now.

So I'm 20 weeks today. Woo! Halfway, and it's all downhill from here. Yeah, right! :) We find out next Monday what we're having (if baby cooperates). So if you want to take a guess, now is the time. I'll try to post a picture of what I look like, if you need that for reference. I honestly have no idea what we're having. I keep thinking boy, but I thought that until Livy was born. Most people think it's a boy (not to bias your opinion) since this pregnancy has been very different from my last. We'll see... Until then, you'll just have to take a guess!
